Itinerary

Approx. 7-8 hours walking – 17.9kms

After picking you up in Nelson we get to know each other a little on our way to Mārahau where we catch a water taxi to Torrent Bay to begin our walk. We will head up and over to the iconic Falls River Swing Bridge and further to Bark Bay which is a wonderful spot for some lunch and maybe a swim. From this lovely bay the track heads up one of the largest ascents on the trip ending up back at sea level at Tonga Quarry then the beautfiul crescent shaped Onetahuti Beach.  We’ll meander along this beach before heading over the last saddle to Awaroa.

We’ll stay at the exquisite Awaroa Lodge and enjoy a meal in their Harakeke Restaurant with a glass of wine.

Approx. 3 hours walking – 8.1kms

After breakfast we will cross the wide tidal inlet just out of Awaroa Lodge before getting into some wonderful podocarp forest and then bursting out on the golden sand beaches of Waiharakeke and Goat Bay. The final ascent sees us over to the popular camping spot of Tōtaranui where we meet our transport to our accommodation for the night.

We’ll stay at Ratanui Lodge tonight with its amazing hosts and delicious 3 course meal we’ll feel truly spoiled.

Approx. 5 hours walking – 15.5kms

It is with reluctance that we leave the style, casual elegance and beauty of Ratanui Lodge for our shuttle to Wainui Inlet. From here we’ll be on the less-travelled northern section of the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. The views of Wainui Inlet as you climb up into the native forest are stunning. We’ll head up and over to Whariwharangi and may head out to the stunning Separation Point on the loop track. Then it’s on to Mutton Cove and Anapai Beach before arriving at Tōtaranui where we’ll catch our water taxi back to Mārahau. Once here we’ll head back to Nelson and bid farewell.
